DJ Laptop Stand Review

Why the Stanton Uberstand Laptop Stand Fails the Test

I’ve been DJing since around 2000 and started out mixing vinyl on the wheels of steel. But when the prospect of an overseas tour arose in 2007 (and subsequent addiction to Ableton Live) the urge to switch to digital mixing was too hard to pass up.

Pressed for time I was forced into making a quick purchase that has been a bit of a disappointment ever since. I snatched up the Stanton DJ laptop stand at a DJ store in Portland, thinking that it looked slick, folded easily and could slide into my Gator bag with ease.

While I did like its ease of use (quickly folding up into a tidy package) and the ability to easily adjust the middle rack, I found that the Stanton laptop stand fails for one main reason — stability.

Even though my laptop never got tossed off the stand, it bounced a little bit too much for comfort thanks to my tendency to be a bit enthusiastic behind the decks. Wouldn’t be such a big deal if it was momentary, but with an hour or two of this (plus constantly worrying, readjusting my physical movements) it became a huge distraction.

So while I liked some of the features that this particular laptop stand has, ultimately I’d say PASS. Find something else that’s rock solid and won’t be in danger of shaking the screen off your laptop after a two hour set.
